 There are two seasons of Junior hockey.
 
Winter hockey is available for Years 3-8 and runs for 13 weeks during Term 2 and part of Term 3.
Summer hockey is available for Years 3-6 only and runs for 8 weeks during Term 4.
 
Year 1/2 hockey is provided by Taranaki Hockey through the Fun Sticks programme.



TERM 2/3 WINTER HOCKEY (Years 3-8)
 
YEAR 1-2 FUN STICKS

Fun Sticks is a progressive programme that will introduce your child to hockey through basic fundamental skills and fun hockey games. This programme is developed for children in Year 1 & 2 at school and 4-6 year olds.

Season: 4 May – 22 June (excluding King’s Birthday weekend and Matariki weekend) 
            19 October – 7 December
Time:    8.00am – 9.00am Saturday
Venue: New Plymouth Turf on Hobson Street 
Costs:   $40 per child payable directly to Taranaki Hockey

YEAR 3-4 MINI STICKS
•           Development – fairly new or new to hockey, 1/4 turf for 40 minutes, 6 aside
•           Experienced players – 1/4 turf for 40 minutes, 6 aside

Season: Starts Saturday 4 May, finishes Saturday 31 August 
Games:  Development games usually between 9.45am and 11.15am but to be confirmed
               Experienced games usually between 11.15am and 12.45pm but to be confirmed
Venue:   NP Turf on Hobson Street
Fees:     $60

YEAR 5-6 KIWI STICKS
•           Development – fairly new or new to hockey, 1/4 turf for 40 minutes, 6 aside. Smaller field hence more touches on the ball and no padded goalkeeper
•           Experienced players – 1/2 turf for 40 minutes, 7 aside.  More running involved and play with a padded goalkeeper 

Season: Starts Saturday 4 May, finishes Saturday 31 August 
Games: Saturdays. Development games usually between 12.45pm and 1.30pm but to be confirmed
Games: Saturdays. Experienced games anywhere between 9.45am and 1.30pm
Venue:  NP Turf on Hobson Street
Fees:    $70

Please note: there will be no games on Saturday 1 June (King’s Birthday weekend) and Saturday 29 June (Matariki weekend).
 
YEAR 7-8 KWIK STICKS
7 aside half field hockey, 25 minute halves
Mixed gender
Where possible, grading games will be held at the beginning of season to ensure teams are at an equal ability.

Season: Starts Friday 3 May, finishes Friday 30 August
Games: Monday and Friday evenings in Term 2 and part of Term 3
Venue:   NP Turf on Hobson Street
Fees:     $95

Please note: there will be no games played on Monday 3 June (King’s Birthday weekend) and Friday 28 June (Matariki weekend).



TERM 4 SUMMER HOCKEY (Years 3-6)

YEAR 3-4 MINI STICKS
•           Development – fairly new or new to hockey, 1/4 turf for 40 minutes, 6 aside
•           Experienced players – 1/4 turf for 40 minutes, 6 aside

Season: Starts Saturday 19 October 2024, finishes Saturday 7 December 2024 
Games:  Saturdays – 9.45am or 10.30am start
Venue:   NP Turf on Hobson Street
Fees:     $45

YEAR 5-6 KIWI STICKS
•           Development – fairly new or new to hockey, 1/4 turf for 40 minutes, 6 aside. Smaller field hence more touches on the ball and no padded goalkeeper
•           Experienced players – 1/2 turf for 40 minutes, 7 aside.  More running involved and play with a padded goalkeeper 

Season: Starts Saturday 19 October 2024, finishes Saturday 7 December 2024 
Games: Saturdays. Development games 11.15am or 12.00pm start
Games: Saturdays. Experienced games start anywhere between 9.45am and 12.45pm
Venue:  NP Turf on Hobson Street
Fees:    $55 



UNIFORMS
A blue school sports shirt will be provided to players before the first game.
Parents will need to provide:
·       Blue or black shorts
·       Long blue socks
·       Sports shoes without sprigs
·       Shin guards (either hockey or football)
·       Mouthguard (players cannot enter the field to play unless they have their mouthguard)
·      Hockey stick (a correctly sized hockey stick should reach up to the hip bone)

DRAWS
The draw is available here.
 
CANCELLATIONS
Cancellations are notified on the Taranaki Hockey website and Facebook page. 
 
UMPIRES
Umpires for the winter season are provided by Taranaki Hockey. Umpires for the summer season are to be provided by each team.
